S is for Surname Studies, Statistics, and South Pool

I have to keep to a routine.  I have four surname studies, one One-Place study, ten websites/blogs, my own genealogy, a Facebook group - and a day job.  So I reserve specific days for specific tasks: like today (Saturday) is usually South Pool Saturday.

South Pool, in Devon, England, is my One-Place Study.  I am collecting everything I can find about the place (can anyone say ebay?) and building small trees of the people who lived and worked there.  I have also started a South Pool One Place Study within the branches of WikiTree.  I am transcribing its parish registers and slowly putting the results up on WikiTree, as well - and I am pleased to say that today (25th June 16) I have put all its baptisms from 1664 to 1699 on there, linking the individual's profiles.  There are now 569 profiles linked into the Study.  The Murch Name Study has 316 profiles (with plenty more offline), and the Blagdon Name Study 287.

Did you know that 49.2% of all statistics are made up on the spot?

  1. My Nichols family is from South Pool (Frogmore). The farthest back I have is my 5x ggf James Nichols born about 1740. I actually have a weblink to your one place study on his profile page on Ancestry. My 4x ggf married in South Pool then moved to Charleton. If you run across records for the Nichols family I would be interested.

    1. So far (up to 1699) I only have one Nichols family:
John Nichols (born about 1660) who married Elizabeth Huit 18 January 1686; they had Elizabeth 1686, Grace 1688, John 1690, and Mary 1695. Are you a member of WikiTree (it's free). There are 6079 Nichols recorded there. Another site you will LOVE is http://www.our4bears.net/ - transcriptions of parish registers and censuses. All free.

  4. Ros, I am very impressed with your workload and organisational skills, as I struggle to keep pace with my own family history (four lines) One Place Study (Earlston, Berwickshire), my personal family history blog and blog for Auld Earlston plus reading and commenting on related sites. How do you do it all?

  5. Wow! This blog looks exactly like my old one! It's on a completely different subject but it has pretty much the same layout and design. Wonderful choice of
    colors!
